It certainly wasn’t the fastest Congress Avenue mile, but it was-by far-the biggest. For the first time in its history, the Mercedes Benz Congress Mile was part of the Freescale Austin Marathon Distance Challenge and the prospective marathoners flocked to the starting line for the first in a series of races that leads up to the marathon in mid-February. At the 2004 Congress Avenue Mile, Jean Marie Ndikumana, the 2004 Statesman Capitol 10,000 Champion, showed he’s pretty good at the shorter stuff too. Actually, Ndikumana’s is a former 1,500 track star from Abilene Chistian, so he has the goods for a quick mile. Still, seeing a sub-four minute race is always exciting. Read the rest of this entry »
